Saving money by shopping at the Dollar Store

Now, make no mistake, MONEY CAN BE WASTED AT THE DOLLAR STORE… But- you can also find some GREAT deals! Here are some tips on saving money by shopping at the Dollar Store.

1. Baby Nuks- you can buy a two pack and they are almost exactly like the Nuk brand. It saves a lot of money if you tend to lose them like we do!

2. Baby/bridal shower gifts and game prizes. You can find nice candles, shower wash and more that make great prizes for cheap. I have also bought a dollar basket and filled it with household items and made a great wedding shower gift for only a few dollars.

3. Cleaning supplies- I highly recommend the cleaner ‘Awesome’. Just add water and it’s a long lasting great cleaner for almost everything even carpet stains!

4. Flowers for hair pretties- you can buy and take apart flowers to make cute headband accents for cheap!

5. Party decor- don’t spend $50-$100 on party decorations from the party store!!! The dollar store has matching table clothes, cups, plates, napkins, table decor, party favors and more for birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and even weddings.

6. Mylar balloons- pricey at a regular store but you can get character balloons (spider-man, Disney princess), birthday, get well, shower, thanks, congrats, graduation and more.

7. Toothbrush two packs and toothpaste

8. Organizational baskets for drawers and shelves

9. School room decor, coloring books and large packs of crayons and chalk

10. Rummage sale stuff- price stickers, Jumbo black markers, sale signs, poster board (2 for $1)

Just remember though- not everything is a deal at the dollar store! Shop wisely and enjoy the steals 🙂

Hair clips aren’t just for hair!

Standard

Today I was looking through some things my mother-in-law and I were putting together for my kid’s Easter baskets, when she handed me some really cute hair clips.  I was pretending to put them in my baby’s (non-existent) hair when I got the idea to put them on her sleeve.

Here’s what came out of my idea:

Make long sleeve shirts into short sleeve shirts for summer by scrunching up the sleeves and then put the hair clip on the outside of the sleeve.  The picture explains it better:ImageImage

5 things to make with a pair of newborn baby tights!

Standard

Just when you thought baby tights were only to be worn by babies……

Here are some unique ideas for how to re-purpose a cute pair of cotton, stretchy baby tights!

1. a ring

I cut one color strand off the tights and then wound it up, folded it in two and then tight it…I wear it with the tied part showing.

2. a bracelet or hair tie

cut about 2 inches of the tights (on these I cut 8 stripes).  Tie a knot on one end and wallah! Or don’t tie a knot and then use it as a hair tie

3. Barbie hats

I don’t know about you but my daughter’s barbies get really snarly hair.   These cute beanie looking hats are made from the sock part of the tights and are great for my daughter to put on her barbies for playing and also for when she stores them in her Barbie drawer so the hair doesn’t get all mangled.

4. diaper cover/underwear, swim bottoms, baby bloomers

once the “legs” are cut off the tights the seat of the tights can be used for many different things.  My 5-year-old put them on and they fit her great-she could wear them as undies, with a swim-top, for dress-up play or in place of bloomers under a dress.  These tights were newborn, but with the legs cut out they fit up to a size 5! HAHA 🙂  I also think they would work could as a diaper cover for babies who wear cloth diapers.

5. sweat bands

cutting 2-3 inches of material off the leg makes for really cute sweat bands to wear for fun or to the gym!

These pictures show all the different ways I was able to use ONE pair of newborn tights:

So, head on over to the thrift store or into your babies stash of tights and CUT AWAY!
